Algeria Cap Blanc Seawater Desalination Project | Stainless Steel Seamless Pipes: Application and Material Selection 🌊 🌊 🌊 


The Cap Blanc seawater desalination plant in Aïn El Karma (Wilaya of Oran) is a large scale SWRO project with a capacity of 300 000 m³/day. It guarantees drinking water supply and water security for western Algeria. AEC (Sonatrach Group) undertakes project supervision; GCB acts as main general contractor, and ENGTP provides technical support.


SWRO piping shall resist chlorides, marine atmosphere, continuous operation, pressure and localized corrosion. Material selection depends on chloride content, temperature, pH value, flow velocity, pressure, crevicecorrosion conditions and manufacturing requirements.


Main material grades: TP316L, Duplex 2205, Super-Duplex 2507


316L: for moderately corrosive environments

2205: high mechanical strength & good chloride resistance 

2507: for harsh marine service, excellent pitting & crevice-corrosion resistance


Application scope: seawater intake, pre-treatment, high-pressure reverse osmosis, post-treatment, brine discharge.


Quality control: material traceability, chemical analysis, mechanical tests, dimensional inspection, hydrostatic test & NDT, metallographic examination. 


For duplex steels: phase balance, heat treatment, intermetallic-phase control.
